Frequently Asked Questions
We would like to return the rental motorcycle on a Sunday or a bank holiday. Is it possible?
We are open Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
We also open on Saturday afternoon, Sunday and bank holidays by appointment.
You can also take a rental extension which will allow you to return the motorcycle the next morning.
How long does it take to get started with the bike?
Following your reservation, your motorcycle and your contract will be ready before your arrival, and the administrative part will be quick.
We will then take a moment to explain the bike’s features and the GPS. This time depends on your needs.
It usually takes between 10 and 30 minutes for the administrative part and explanations.
Then, you can take the time you need to load your motorcycle.
If I drop the motorcycle, what will I pay?
The deductible for damage to the motorcycle varies from €2000 to €3000 depending on the bike model. It can be reduced to €500 depending on age and bike model, and this option is available for rentals of 4 days minimum.
This is the maximum amount you will pay in the event of damage covered by the insurance.
However, if the amount of the repairs is less than the deductible, you will only pay the amount of the repairs.
NB: For younger riders on some motorcycles, the deductible for damage to the motorcycle and the deposit is €4500 and cannot be reduced.
We are going to take the highway in Switzerland. Does the motorway vignette come with the motorcycle?
We do not buy a vignette for the motorcycles. If you are lucky, a previous customer may already have bought it.
It is only needed to ride on Swiss motorways. If you avoid motorways, no sticker is required. The GPS will help you avoid motorways.
The vignette costs CHF 40 and is available at most petrol stations in Switzerland.
I am a foreigner. Do I need an international driving licence?
If the A category (all types of motorcycles) appears on your driving licence, that is perfect. We do not need any international driving licence.
If not, the Swiss and French police are not necessarily supposed to understand what is written on your licence.
An international driving licence is an official translation of your licence. If you have a motorcycle licence, the “A” category will be stamped on it.
Without the international licence, a demanding police officer may consider your licence invalid.
To be fully compliant with the law, we recommend carrying an international licence together with your original licence.
Most of the time, you can obtain one from your local authorities or automobile club for a small fee or even free of charge.
Can I store my luggage in your shop during the rental?
Yes. We will store your unused luggage during your trip free of charge.
A space is also provided so that you can load the motorcycle comfortably.
Can I get changed (riding equipment / clothes) at the rental agency?
Of course. Toilets and a changing room are available for this.
Can I cross the border to another country with the rental motorcycle?
Yes, of course. You are covered by our insurance and assistance in France, Switzerland and neighbouring countries. Beyond that area, please contact us.
What happens if I break down with the rental motorcycle?
Moto-Plaisir provides first-level assistance to its customers.
This allows us either to find a solution ourselves or to ease communication with roadside assistance.
Depending on the nature of the problem, we choose the most suitable solution together with the client (another motorcycle, taxi, hotel, car, etc.).
However, all motorcycles are recent and maintained according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
The motorcycles are also systematically prepared and checked before departure.
Breakdowns that force the motorcycle to stop are extremely uncommon on our machines.
Does a lock come with the motorcycle?
Depending on the type of motorcycle, one or more anti-theft devices are provided (steering lock, motorcycle engraving, lock, disc lock, electronic alarm system or other).
To be covered by insurance, it is necessary to use the protection systems provided.
At the pick-up of your motorcycle, we will take the time to explain how to use them.
In case of theft, a deductible is applicable (€2000 for most of our models; see the specific conditions of your rental).
If, however, you wish to have an additional lock to secure the motorcycle, we can provide one.
What type of GPS is proposed?
The GPS we provide is the TomTom Rider. This model is very intuitive to use. It also has a very useful winding roads function to take you along bikers’ favourite roads.
Some motorcycles have a built-in GPS.
We will explain the main GPS functions during the briefing. You can also watch the video:

Can I rent a motorcycle with my driving licence from my country?
Yes, your driving licence must show the A category for all types of motorcycles.
If this is not the case (for example, US citizens or holders of a non-EU driving licence), the international driving licence is required.
The international driving licence is an official translation of your driving licence. It can also be requested by the police if the A category does not appear on your licence.
In the absence of your international licence, your licence may be considered invalid by the authorities.
Can I use my own GPS, and does the motorcycle have a mount?
We rent TomTom Rider GPS units.
We will explain the functions at pick-up of the bike, or you can follow this link to watch a video explaining the functions:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iAPkwGtzT3E&t=105s
If you own a TomTom Rider GPS, you will be able to attach it to the mount pre-installed on the motorcycles.
If you wish to use the GPS functions of your mobile phone, we rent the BMW ConnectedRide Cradle.
If you would like to use a GPS from another brand or a camera, please contact us in advance and we will do our best to satisfy your request.
Is there a USB plug on the motorcycle for my mobile phone?
For navigation, you can rent a TomTom Rider GPS and ride safely without using the GPS of your mobile phone.
If the bike does not have a USB port, we can lend you a USB plug to charge your phone, but continuous use is not recommended for safety reasons (incoming messages, distractions, etc.).
We will explain how the GPS works at the pick-up of the motorcycle.
Can I upload my GPS file to your GPS?
Of course. Send us your .gpx file and we will transfer it to your GPS before your arrival or when you arrive.
We are a group and we would like a special trip, possibly with a guide. Is it possible?
Of course. Send us your request (number of people, dates, duration, places, type of motorcycles, hotel budget, rest day, etc.) and we will offer you a tailor-made proposal.
You can also simply follow the link and fill in the request form.
Can I use my own camera, and does the bike have a mount for it?
If you want to use your own camera, we will show you the best place to attach the mount.
Can we hire motorcycle gear?
Of course. You will find here the link to our clothes and accessories available for rental.
You will find boots, trousers, jackets, helmets and helmet intercoms.
Can I pick up or drop off the motorcycle at a hotel in Geneva or Annemasse?
We do not offer a delivery service. However, we can arrange a transfer for you from your hotel in Geneva to our shop at a preferential rate (this package is also valid from the airport).
From Annemasse, you can reach us by taxi for €25–30.
Annemasse taxis centre: +33 4 50 37 05 05
Can I choose the colour of the bike I am going to rent?
At Moto-Plaisir, the bike you choose is the one you will rent.
In the unusual case that we cannot rent you the chosen model, we will contact you to suggest a similar model.
On the other hand, we cannot guarantee the colour of your motorcycle, even if we will note your preference and try to satisfy you on this point.
What is the deductible amount for damage to the motorcycle?
When you come for the pick-up, your contract and your motorcycle will be ready.
We will ask for your driving licence as well as proof of residence (a bill showing the address where you receive your mail; a document on your smartphone is enough).
Then we will open a pre-authorisation for the security deposit on your credit card.
The deductible amount is €2000.
In a few cases, for young riders on some motorcycles, the deductible is €4500 for damage to the motorcycle, with no possibility of reduction.
Your full insurance covers damage to third parties and to the bike, and the rider is covered as well. What about the passenger?
According to the law, insurance companies are required to cover the passenger of any vehicle. Consequently, both rider and passenger are covered.
