Bike ride to the Millau Viaduct : Lyon, Les Cevennes, Ardeche, Vercors, Chartreuse

Recommended period: April to November.

No high passes, Lozère and the Cevennes are generally around 1000 m altitude, as well as the Vercors.

Day 1
Distance: 220 km
Running time: 5:09

We leave Annemasse, rising on the Salève. We joined Seyssel via St. Blaise.
After
Seyssel mounting the Col du Grand Colombier is a regular passage of the Tour de France.
It passes through the pass of the Lebe, then Gorges de l'Albarine towardsTenay then Ambérieux-en-Bugey.
We go to the north of Lyon through the Dombes and its multiple ponds.
We take this step to visit the beautiful city of Lyon and its old town.

Day 2

Running time: 6:38

We leave quickly Lyon with the motorway to Givors, where the road becomes immediately twisty climbing on the Pilat. The route takes you to the Jasserie near the summit of Mont Pilat. You can also have lunch at the Col de la Croix de Chaubouret.
It descends around Bourg-Argental and we enter in Haute-Loire and we are going south on the east of Puy-en-Velay.
We enter the department of Lozère just before Langogne and Mende joined by the gorges of the Allier and the northern part of the  Cevennes national park.
We spend the day's stage to Mende.

Day 3:

We leave Mende south to join Quézac at the entrance of the Gorges du Tarn.
The Gorges du Tarn, in the heart of the Cevennes National Park, offering breathtaking scenery. Take the time to visit, and there is so much to see you can spend several days.
It passes through Saint Enimie, one of the most beautiful villages of France, and make a detour to the "Point Sublime", a breathtaking view of the gorge.
We return to the Gorges road and then joined famous Millau Viaduct, the highest in the world. The route will take you to the place that offers a splendid view of the construction.
It then crosses Millau towards the east before heading north on the Corniche du Causse Noir.
Then towards the east through the gorge of the Jontes to reach Meyrueis.
We continue to follow up the Corniche des Cevennes to Ales for the stage. The route takes you close to the tourist office to choose your hotel or guesthouse.

Day 4:

We leave Ales in the north by the D16 towards Barjac and Vallon Pont d'Arc to join the Gorges de l'Ardèche, we will follow down to  Pont-St-Esprit. Many viewpoints where you can stop to admire the view.
We cross the Rhone at Pont-St-Esprit and left the department of the Gard the department of Drôme, through the beautiful roads of the Drôme Provençale.
It is from the vicinity of Crest we begin to climb the foothills of the Vercors. Roads become winding and hilly. It takes well known passes such as the Col de la Bataille, the Col de la Machine, Combe Laval and the Gorges de la Bourne.
The route takes you to Presles to the heart of Royan and the Vercors plateau for the night, in a charming guesthouse and very quiet.

Day 5:
Distance: 246 km
Running time: 5:17

We keep on our journey in the Gorges de la Bourne and Gorges d'Engins. It falls on Grenoble after Sassenage, we try to cross quickly to reach the Chartreuse Massif and its regional park.
Chambéry is approached via the Col du Granier, crossing the valley to reach the Bauges and cross the mountain Semnoz. Arrived at Annecy, Annemasse is joined Cruseilles then passing east of Salève.
